Philcomdev can help local migration and development stakeholders to mount the following activities: - Migration and Development roundtable discussion with local government and NGO/PO leaders: Discussion of migration issues and realities, cost and benefit of migration, including the development potential of migration. Existing good practices will be highlighted in: promoting rights and welfare of migrants, addressing social cost, working towards productive reintegration and migrant philanthropy projects and activities.
- Seminar on Setting up OFW Center/Desk. This includes a discussion on the realities of OFW life, including the benefits as well as the cost of migration. The seminar will also show the various interventions by government and civil society on promoting the rights and welfare of OFWs and their families, addressing the social cost of migration, and assisting in productive and sustainable reintegration. This will be given to the social welfare staff and other personnel of the local government including those from the barangay level, community leaders or those leading the different sectoral organizations, and OFWs and their families.
- Seminar on Financial Literacy and Addressing OFW Family Issues. This is a two-day seminar developed by Atikha. It starts with a discussion on the duality of migration, of its benefits and cost. The second part is all about money management, encouraging the OFWs and their families to save and invest through short lecture-discussions and hands-on practicum on budgeting and financial planning. The third part is a discussion-sharing of OFW family issues that are barriers to saving and reintegration. Target participants are OFWs and their families.
- Para-legal Training in cooperation with Philcomdev member IDEALS or the Initiatives for Dialogue and Empowerment through Alternative Legal Services.
- Seminar on Integrative Case Management in cooperation with Philcomdev members Batis Center for Women or Kanlungan Center for Migrant Workers.
- Training of Trainers for Financial Literacy and Addressing OFW Family Issues. This is a one-week training of trainers also developed by Atikha. Target participants can be local government staff and community leaders.
- Referrals to NGO direct service providers for distressed migrant workers and their families.
- Referrals to development NGOs and social enterprises for families and communities interested in availing of programs, services and investment opportunities.
