Multi-stakeholder dialogue and knowledge exchange on migration and development. It was a week-long gathering of migration and development stakeholders from the Philippines and the Netherlands, June 6-12, 2010 in Tagaytay City, Cavite, Philippines.
The TRANSCODE workshop, (Transnational Cooperation for Development) brought together non-government organizations, (including migrant associations) and national and local government agencies to discuss initiatives, exchange good practices, and forge better coordination and cooperation.
The organizers of the workshop, the Scalabrini Migration Centre (SMC), the Global Society Foundation, and the University of Radboud designed the workshop so that it combined lecture-discussions and workshops with study tours in selected sites in Metro Manila and Luzon, and gave the participants enough time to absorb and reflect on new knowledge and practices. The workshop identified possible projects, which were mostly replication and upscaling of existing good initiatives including: sister/twin cities, financial literacy campaigns, and local development projects.
A second TRANSCODE workshop, scheduled for October in Netherlands will refine these into project proposals.
