Who We Are

 

PHILIPPINE CONphilco.jpgSORTIUM ON MIGRATION AND DEVELOPMENT (PHILCOMDEV)

is a network of  twenty-seven (27)  non - government  and  people's organizations, microfinance institutions, cooperatives, community based organizations, networks, and individuals who are involved in, and agree to converge their initiatives around the issue of migration, human rights and development - particularly the empowerment of migrants, overseas Filipinos,  their  families and  communities  as social development actors,  addressing the social costs  of migration, optimizing  the benefits  of  migration, and contributing to people-oriented Philippine development.

Its formation was initiated by three leading networks, the Migrant Forum in Asia - Philippines (MFA-PHILS), the International Network of Alternative Financial Institutions - Philippines  (INAFI-PHILS) and the Philippine Social

Enterprises  Network  (PHILSEN).    The  organizing conference was held in January 4, 2007 and the First General Assembly in June 18, 2007. READ MORE

PHILCOMDEV Joins the Rhapsody Mission in Hongkong, June 4, 2010 PDF Print E-mail

Philcomdev is part of the Rhapsody Project which aims to promote the sexual and reproductive health and rights of Filipina domestic workers. Last June 4, 2010 Anna O. Dela Cuesta, Philcomdev Project Officer joined other Rhapsody project members from the Family Planning Organization of the Philippines (FPOP), which leads the project, and the Initiatives for Dialogue and Empowerment through Alternative Legal Services (IDEALS) in Hong Kong to extend counseling services to our Filipina domestic workers in Hong Kong in time for Hong Kong’s Pre-Independence Day celebrations.

The Philcomdev secretariat, together with partners Sammaka, Batis-Aware, Culliat Gender and Development focal person participated in a seminar-workshop on conducting focus group discussion given by the Family Planning Organization of the Philippines (FPOP) last April 5, 2010 at the FPOP national headquarters in New Manila, Quezon City.

Philcomdev joins new Financial Literacy trainers in Area Planning

Philcomdev secretariat joined the new graduates of the Training of Trainers on Financial Literacy (TOT-FINLIT) in Baguio City last January 15 for area planning. 

The five-day training, which was held January 11 to 15, 2010 at Asian Institute of Management Conference Center in Camp John Hay, Baguio City was organized by ATIKHA Overseas Workers and Communities Initiatives Inc. and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).  Philcomdev had nominated its partners from Ifugao, Baguio City, Nueva Ecija and Pampanga to join the training.  It was thus fitting that Philcomdev join its partners in area planning.  Enthusiasm ran high as commitments were concretized during the plenary session where area teams shared their plans.
